2. That Japanese Summer

The sound of cicadas complements the constant heat of Japan’s summer. Hearing them reminds me of that trip we had, lugging our filled-with-presents bags across the cobbled alleys of  Otaru, watching the fireworks burst across the night skies in Hakodate, eating gyu tan in Sendai, being so tired, so very tired that I laughed as you tapped your train ticket on the gantry as though we were in Singapore.

Japan in Summer reminds me of you.
